Cigarbox doggies July 16, 2007

I made an accordian book for my mum last Christmas. I finished it so late that I had no time to take pictures of it. My mum just came for a visit so I ordered her to bring the book so that I can finally take some pictures. I think the book turned out so well that I had real difficulties parting with it at the time.
The book has a cosy home in a little metal cigarbox. The name of the book is ‘Koiruuksia Lapissa’. I have used the word before in a calendar as ’Koiruuksien vuosi’ and explaned it like this: ”Koiruuksien vuosi is a play on words. The word ‘koira’ means ‘dog’. Often dog owners call dogs ‘koiruus’ which comes from the word dog but it means ‘practical joke’ or ‘prank’. So, ‘koiruuksien vuosi’ could be understood as ’the year of the dogs’ or ‘the year of pranks’”. So, Koiruuksia Lapissa could be understood as ‘Dogs in Lapland’ or ‘Pranks in Lapland’. You still with me? So, here come the pictures:

The text on the inner cover reads: Oskar and Tesla moved to Lapland in August 2006.

Text reads: Autumn colours
Note: Our Oskar is well comouflaged in autumn with his amazing red colour! Luckily there is some white too so that we can find him

Text reads: (left page) Mates, brothers, (right page) Autumn swim

Text reads: (left page) Cute, (right page) Rush

Text reads: (left page) Snowball in a rubbersuit, (right page) Iceskating

Text reads: (left page) Frost, snow, Yippee!

Megan, Sheena and me swapped ATC’s with a theme ‘fashion’.

The top ones are mine, then Megan’s and Sheena’s at the bottom. They both did an excellent job – I really like them all.
Hooked on pebbles July 1, 2007

For quite some time now I’ve been hooked on making things out of glass pebbles. My favourites are magnets and pins but I’ve come up with a couple of other things too.

I make these often out of stamped images or patterned papers. The best are actually miniature pictures of patterned papers, like those on packages or in product catalogues. If the papers are very thin I glue them first onto some card. Then I glue the pebbles on top of the papers with clear drying glue (I often use silicone glue). Once dry, I cut the pebbles out and glue a magnet to the bottom. Done. The magnet can be replaced by a flathead pin.

Once I was making some more magnets and thought how they look so juicy and would be lovely as a necklace and hey presto, I made some necklaces.

I glued two pebbles together, back to back, and wrapped some waxed cord around it. Tied knots tightly top and bottom and added some matching beads. Two-sided necklaces were done. The cords have a sliding knot so they can be worn long or short.
The necklaces evolved into tablecloth weights. They were done the same way as the necklaces but with a shorter cord and a curtain clip was attached to the loop. I have made quite a few of these but I have given them all away before taking any pictures.
I thought it would be cool to think of 101 things to do with glass pebbles. 4 done, 97 to go!
