trackback

I saw these really cool Elvis napkins once in the shop and thought they would make nice coasters. I decoupaged them onto tiles and coated them a couple of times with glossy furniture lacquer.

And then I could not stop. The next two lots are made using wrapping paper.

And then I got totally carried away. These are made using patterned paper.

Gina, the lacquer is called ‘Kiva’ (Kiva mödellack in Swedish) and it’s by a Finnish company Tikkurila. I have no idea if they sell their stuff anywhere else, possibly they do. I have often seen people using polyurethene but since that’s usually oil-based and smelly I decided to go for a water-based lacquer instead. This one dries quickly and is almost odourless and it comes glossy or satin (I have the glossy one) and the brushes can be washed with water.

Wendy, thank you so much for your kind words. I don’t chat too much on the forum either nowadays but I do pop in every now and then. After all these years it’s still my favourite forum!! Perhaps I’ll ’see’ you there one of these days.

I found it and ordered a large bottle from artistbutiken.se along with some black gesso , texture paste and gel medium…Thanks for the info and the first thing I have done is to coat the altered handbag with it…it is on my blog from about 2 weeks ago!

Do you use UTEE or just brilliance ink? How did you get the amazing shine on the necklace? I have UTEE if you would like to try some!

Sorry Gina that I have taken so long to respond. On that necklace I used glossy gel medium on top of the Brilliance. I have used UTEE sometimes for the same purpose. I like putting many layers of UTEE until the piece starts getting a bit lumpy and slightly out of shape. When the UTEE is hot and there are many layers it starts to trip on round items like beads. I think it looks cool. Black gesso rules, by the way!!!
