More stuff out of matchboxes October 4, 2009

Since I had the board, papers and matchboxes out after making the matchbox pyramid I made another matchbox thing.

It’s a box on stilts. Three stilts.

There are 6 drawers at the bottom and one big box on the top.

Hinges for the lid are made of bits of ribbon and eyelets.

Naturally the inside of the box is covered in patterned paper, too.

I can’t make any more of these now. I ran out of empty matchboxes. I have been saving them for several years.

Remember this little fella? I thought it’s time to make his little, more industrialized brother. I ransacked the toolbox and an old knackered CD player for this sweetie.

While I was at it I thought I might as well do the country bumpkin cousin. And yes, I know the feeling!

Anything that stays still long enough will get stamped. Look what happened to my black shoes. This is before and after:

Tin roof, rusted! July 27, 2009

I was planning on making a box with Bind-it-all but it turned out to be this funky house. I coated thick board with acrylic paint (white for the walls and silver for the roof) to make it less absorbent. Once the paint was dry I stamped all the pieces with VersaMark and embossed with clear embossing powder. After that the pieces were coloured with alcohol inks. Holes were punched with the Bind-it-all and the walls and roof were bound together with ribbon yarn. This is a good time to grow an extra hand or two! Slippery things those walls… I attached a brad, braided ribbon yarn and an alcohol inked key on the edge of the roof. No glitter on the front porch but it sure is a funky old shack! I think it needs a little scrapbook inside…

Plastic fantastic July 24, 2009

I’d love to make pendants out of crystals from old chandeliers but I haven’t found any. So, plastic will have to do.

I stamped some text on silk paper and decoupaged it on this one.

Same with this one but I coloured the crystal with alcohol inks first.

This one has only alcohol inks on. There is also a layer of decoupage lacquer on top of the alcohol ink so that the oils in the skin wouldn’t react with the ink.

This one is my favourite. It has Distress Stickles on it and a protective layer of Glossy Accents on top of that.

Rolling and bending July 22, 2009

I made some paper jewellery for a change. Paper strips are rolled and embossed with UTEE.

I’ve always avoided making jewellery like this because for the life of me I can’t bend wire. It seems easy enough but I just can’t do it. I always do it all wrong somehow, bending the wire the wrong way, or something. It must be because I’m a left hander (or that’s my excuse anyway). I make things the wrong way, think left and turn right, and all that but somehow, this time it just clicked. And it can’t have been just a fluke because I managed to do all seven no problem. Yay, bend it baby!

Canvas necklace July 11, 2009

I had four leftover canvas pieces after making this bracelet. So I made a matching necklace. The white shirt is also something I just whipped up. Knitting is not something I usually like doing in the summer but since it has been rather wintry I have been knitting like a woman possessed.

More jewellery. I’ve had this bracelet blank for ages and finally decided that it needed some colourful Basic Grey paper and Glossy Accents. The bracelet was way too long so one frame link had to come off and that became a matching necklace. Also, one of the triangle dominos from yesterday matches the bracelet.

I got tired of the most boring stool in the world I have in the hall. Now, after my treatment, boring it ain’t!

For little nieces May 22, 2009

My 5-year-old niece is a real princess. She walks around with fairy wings and a wand, maybe a crown on her head. Everything must be pink, glittery and shiny and have butterflies or flowers. She also loves to wear jewellery, preferably one with her name on it. Unfortunately, her name Eevi is a little uncommon and it’s difficult to find anything ready-made. So, aunty to the rescue. And just for the record, this is the first and last time I call myself an aunty, it makes me feel about 80, ha. Luckily it’s not common to call anyone aunty-this or aunty-that in this country. Us Finns come with a name! Phew.

Anyway, here are the bottlecap necklaces I made for Eevi and her older sister Emmi. Emmi is not too interested in jewellery but I made her one anyway. She is the total opposite of her little princess sister but I refused to make football or skateboard necklace. Both necklaces have glitter glue on the pattern paper and Glossy Accents on top.
