Basket case

I was clearing the garage the other day when I found a broken snowshoe pole basket. In case you don’t know what it is, a basket is the round thing at the bottom of ski poles to stop the pole from sinking in the snow. The poles with snowshoeing are slightly different from those used for skiing as snowshoeing is often done in deep snow. For this reason the baskets need to be big. When I was young all ski pole baskets were big but these days those used for skiing are very little and only half circles in shape. In effect, showshoe poles look very retro.

Anyway, this snowshoe pole basket almost went into the bin but then I realised that it actually looks quite nice and I simply had to modify it a little. It became this ‘neo-celtic’ wall hanging. It also looks quite summery now rather than a thing of winter.
